Fire-safe elegance in Altadena
In progress
In a high-fire area of Altadena, this proposal makes a smaller outdoor footprint feel like a natural extension of home. Landscape designer Arturo Jimenez shaped the concept around fire-conscious material choices, a clear connection between indoor and outdoor living, and places for calm, everyday use.

The concept organizes the property into two connected outdoor settings, each with its own character and a simple relationship to the home.
A seating area rests beneath a vibrant Redbud tree. Warm decomposed granite forms the ground plane, while carefully chosen ceramic vases add a feeling of optimism and quiet reflection.
A continuous, single-level deck connects directly to the kitchen and main bedroom. Trex decking in Spiced Rum is specified for a warm Ipe-like tone alongside a Class B fire-retardant rating in the supplied brief. An aluminum fence with a wood-grain finish completes the setting.
Drought-tolerant greenery softens the perimeter, supported by smart drip irrigation. Low-voltage lighting is planned to bring a gentle evening atmosphere and frame views toward the Altadena mountains.
Fire-safety details are part of the design intent. Final product specifications, installation conditions, and site-specific requirements need confirmation with the project team, suppliers, and the relevant authorities.
